Voices Calling Me: A Cultural Investigation

Right now, Voices Calling Me:  A Cultural Investigation is an amoeba collective of ideas around one core question:  how do people understand ghosts?

I've had a desire to do more with my training in history than simply teach.  Couple that with my creative impulses, I decided to try my hand at documentary filmmaking.

But first you need material.  Whatever you can get your hands on.  There are a few ghost hunting groups in my small SE Kansas town, and admittedly I've been interested in the process and watched more than a few episodes of the myriad paranormal research shows available.

But what really kickstarted the process was a very personal reason.  Recently, I lost my best friend.  I stayed with him for a few months back in March 2014 and had a paranormal experience of my own; he certainly believed his house was haunted.  I admit that in the wake of his death, I was desperately curious to find out if he had "stuck around."

So.  What are these voices calling us from beyond the grave?  Do they exist in our imaginations, in the mysteries just beyond the veil, are they real, can science verify their existence?  And what do our attitudes, beliefs and ideas about those who have passed reveal about us?

That is what I intend to investigate.
